LA County Animal Care & Control

Description

The County of Los Angeles Department of Animal Care and Control (DACC) is one of the nation’s largest and most progressive animal control agencies. Operating seven animal care centers, DACC embraces the philosophy of socially conscious animal sheltering while serving unincorporated Los Angeles County and 45 contract cities—home to more than three million residents. Adopting from DACC not only provides a loving home to an animal in need but also brings the joy of making a life-changing difference.

Animals at the care centers benefit greatly from the compassion and support of volunteers, and there are many ways to get involved—both onsite and from home. Volunteers must be at least 16 years old to serve directly with DACC, though offsite projects are available for younger volunteers who wish to support the centers and enrich the lives of the animals.

Training Note: Orientations are required for in-person opportunities and are held a minimum of once a quarter or bi-annually depending on the care center location. After applying, you will receive an auto email with more information and a Volunteer Coordinator will reach out with next steps. Once orientation is completed, volunteers will be required to complete online and in person training. All volunteers who would like to work with our animals are also required to pass our handling assessment. Once training is completed, volunteers will be required to purchase a volunteer shirt. Shirts are $15.

Ages: Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age to volunteer with the Department of Animal Care and Control. However, they do have offsite projects for those under 16 who want to support our care center and provide enrichment for our animals.
