The Downtown Women’s Center (DWC) is the only organization in Los Angeles dedicated solely to serving women and gender-diverse individuals experiencing homelessness. DWC works to end homelessness by offering safe housing and comprehensive support services centered on wellness, employment, and advocacy.
Volunteers play a vital role in this mission. If you share DWC’s core values, you’re invited to join their efforts to help end homelessness in Los Angeles. Volunteer opportunities include: prepping and serving meals, leading and supporting enrichment activities at the day centers, assembling toiletry kits and snack packs, donation sorting, and on-site candle making.
Training Note: All on-site individual volunteers are required to participate in a virtual volunteer training before signing up to volunteer. Many on-site individual volunteer opportunities also require that volunteers commit to a certain number of weekly shifts in order to sign up, though this varies depending on the opportunity.
Ages: They do not offer on-site volunteer opportunities appropriate for those under 18 years old. This includes minors accompanied by adults. However, those under 18 years old are welcome to volunteer with DWC off-site by making Snack Packs, Toiletry Kits, Clean Home Kits, or by holding a donation drive.
